The Director of Transportation is responsible for the operation of the company’s transportation network. Lead and continuously improve the day-to-day operations of all transportation and garage related activities to optimize performance and cost controls while introducing and implementing supply chain best practices.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage all aspects of nationwide transportation operations
- Establish metrics and information systems that provide key stakeholders with timely and accurate reports and information
- Serve as a resource to Sales, Production, Customer Service, Scheduling and Supply Chain teams
- Set benchmarks and standards for departmental performance
- Direct best practices in customer delivery, transportation, garage management, staff and asset utilization, safe practices and cost savings initiatives
- Participate in near and long-term forecasting and planning of logistics, transportation and garage operations
- Enforce Company policies
- Ensure compliance with the Company’s safety program and occupational health staff to ensure compliance with requirements of the modified duty program
- Promote and ensure a safe work environment while communicating safety results, both accident and injury frequencies, as a top priority
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory bodies
- Analyze department wages in comparison with others in the industry and recommend changes to maintain competitive position
- Work with cross functional teams on planning resources to ensure the timely and safe movement of company equipment and product
- Efficiently manage all administrative functions and reporting requirements both internally and for external customers as necessary
- Prepare and manage yearly budget for all transportation activities while continuously evaluating opportunities to reduce costs
- Create an open and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, development of team members and ensures an engaged team
- Take a proactive role in assuring safe, quality products are produced by immediately addressing any safety or quality concerns
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain or related fields, preferably intermodal
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word
- Proficiency in supply chain, ERP, driver compliance and transportation management systems
- Ability to interact with individuals at all professional levels
- Superior organizational skills
- Ability to effectively manage various levels of employees
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including but not limited to performance management (employee evaluations, discipline, corrective action, coaching) and interviewing are required
- Exceptional skills in process improvement, cost-analysis, and implementation of cost-saving programs
- Strong writing and verbal skills
